Pianist Jocelyn Chang came to the United States after making her acclaimed piano concerto debut in the National Concert Hall in Taiwan, winning an array of awards, and having her performances broadcast nationally. As an avid chamber musician, Jocelyn has collaborated with distinguished musicians and faculty artists of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Opera Orchestra, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Pacific Symphony Orchestra, Long Beach Symphony Orchestra, Pasadena Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra (Taiwan), UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, and USC Thornton School of Music. Her engagements also include performing the complete sonatas for violin and piano by Beethoven and Brahms as well as a concert tour with Grawemeyer award winning composer Chinary Ung.

Dr. Chang enjoys a rewarding career as a performer and educator. She is Associate Professor and Chair of Keyboard Studies at Pasadena City College (PCC) in California. At PCC, she was nominated for the “Risser Outstanding Teacher Award” for her leadership in the Keyboard Studies program and her contribution to the college. She has taught at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music as an Assistant Lecturer and received the “Model Teacher” recognition. At the University of Southern California (USC), she served as Vice President of the Music Teachers National Association - USC Collegiate Chapter.

In addition, Dr. Chang has taught at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) where she was a Lecturer of Piano and served as Director of Keyboard Studies. At CSUSB, she also served as Faculty Advisor of both the Music Teachers National Association - CSUSB Collegiate Chapter and the Piano Society at CSUSB. Dr. Chang is deeply committed to providing access and bringing musical arts to underserved communities. She raised funds and established the annual Piano Day event and was also the Artistic Director of the Distinguished Artists Series at California State University, San Bernardino. Her private piano students have been prizewinners at competitions and accepted by the University of Southern California, University of North Texas, Azusa Pacific University, University of California, Berkeley, Irvine, and Cal State Northridge, Fullerton, and Long Beach. Many of Dr. Chang’s students have also become teaching professionals.

Dr. Chang has appeared internationally as a guest artist and presented master classes for the Music Teachers’ Association of California, Northern Illinois University, Illinois Wesleyan University, University of West Georgia, California State University, Fresno, Beverly Hills International Music Festival in Los Angeles, Interharmony International Music Festival in Italy, and Aletheia University in Taiwan. In high demand as an adjudicator for festivals and competitions, Dr. Chang has served as a judge for the Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Piano Competition, Music Teachers' Association of California Piano Competition, United States Open Music Competition, Southwestern Youth Music Festival Competition, Liana Cohen Music Festival Competition, La Sierra University Concerto Competition, Biola University Piano Performance Scholarships Competition, Musical Arts Piano Competition of Orange County, Diamond Bar Performing Arts Challenge Competition, and Southern California Junior Bach Festival Competition.

Jocelyn’s accolades and top prizes include the Taiwan National Piano Competition, SinoPac Young Artist Piano Competition, Taipei Piano Competition, National Taiwan Normal University Piano Concerto Competition, Taiwan Pace Young Musician Awards, Taiwan National Chamber Music Competition, Taipei Double Bass Competition, and Taiwan National Double Bass Competition.  She has also garnered numerous awards and scholarships including the USC Thornton School of Music Dean's Full Scholarship, USC Thornton School of Music Graduate Teaching Assistantship, Gabriel Mekler Memorial Endowed Music Full Scholarship, USC Thornton Board of Advisors Mentorship Program, Claire and Allan Jensen Endowed Scholarship, Peabody Conservatory Scholarship, KAWAI Music Scholarship, and National Taiwan 228 Memorial Scholarship. Additionally, she was inducted into the Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honors Society.

Jocelyn holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree with Distinction from the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music, where she majored in Piano Performance with minors in Keyboard Collaborative Arts, Double Bass Performance, and Music Education. She received her Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University; and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the National Taiwan Normal University, where she majored in Piano Performance with a minor in Double Bass Performance. Jocelyn was enrolled in Taiwan’s government program for gifted young musicians, and she has also studied at the Belarusian State Academy of Music in Minsk, Belarus. Throughout her academic journey, she was under the tutelage of Daniel Pollack, Stewart Gordon, Boris Slutsky, Kevin Fitz-Gerald, Zoya Kocharskaya, and En Wang.

Jocelyn Chang is on the artist faculty at the Interharmony International Music Festival in Piedmont, Italy. She is a member of the College Music Society (CMS), the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), the Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC), and the California Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT).
